Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a treatment procedure similar to the central nervous system (CNS). Stereotactic radiosurgery: This deals with tumours outside of the CNS. Stereotactic radiation treatment for the body is a specially designed coordinated system used for the exact localization of the tumours in the body to treat them with limited but highly-precise treatment fields.
SBRT involves the delivery of a single high-dose radiation treatment or a few fractionated radiation treatments (usually up to five treatments). A highly potent biological dose of radiation is delivered to the tumour, improving the cure rates for the tumour, in a manner previously not achievable by standard conventional radiation therapy.
